I'm doing a link up called Quote Quests from the blog Splendor Falls on Castle Walls.
If you'd like to join, head over to Mel's blog!! And this is mostly my own story but I was thinking of Jonah in the Bible a little ;)
Here I sit in the grey mist.
It reminds me of how I was once more than a fading cold fog. The mist wraps its wet fingers around my cold body suffocating any remaining happiness I possibly had.
One lonely tree spreads its drooping branches over me as if to hug my sorrows away. The leaves touch my cheeks as if saying, "I'm here." But it hides the sun's warmth. The tree does not -can not- comfort me.
I look down from my mountain seat onto the city. The people go on as if nothing has happened. Yet my world has turned upside down.
Once they shouted my name. Now the whisper it. Rylinn of Egan.
Then, they adored me. I was praised. Now they think of me only with contempt or compassion. Both equally appalling.
The King loved me.
But I wanted more. I deserved more!
For blasphemy and rebellion I was exiled to this place.
"Rylinn!"
The King has been trying to call me back. But I prefer my solitude. My desolation.
"Rylinn, my child!"
He took away everything! My respect, my talents, my status.
"I took nothing. You chose this over what I gave you. You forfeited your life."
I look into the dirty puddle at my side. My face is hideous. My eyes empty. My long hair tangled about my face makes the image only worse.
The mist rises. And so does my tree's branches. How stupid I was to think they were here for me! I miss them for some stupid reason.
And still the King calls to me. But I am angry.
Death seems pleasant when I can have nothing better.
"But you can! Choose to ask for forgiveness. Choose to accept me."
But that would mean giving up my thoughts, my ways. Can I do that? Can I let my pride go to seek love and refuge with my King?
Is it true that only He can satisfy?
Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."
Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Wow, I really like it!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteGood job, Keturah! I like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks :D
DeleteThat is really good. I am thinking of using my story i have already written for this Quote Quest. Although, I don't know... I am going to post my story anyway. I suppose you can choose whether or not it seems to fit that quote. It is not as short as yours, but is still classed as a short story.
