Character Comparison: Jane Eyre and Anna Karenina

Comparison of the novels Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy Contains spoilers By Keturah Lamb, July 9, 2022 Jane Eyre is feisty and not very pretty, so we are told. But we fall in love with a little girl who has a sensitive heart willing to forgive those who torment her and to pray for them. The plot quickly turns away from the wit and misfortune of a Jane Austen type story and we see a foreshadowing of all the dark, sordid things ahead when Jane is locked in a room where she believes to see a red demon.  Anna Karenina makes quite the first impression. She is beautiful, elegant, but above all she sees those around her and all feel known and loved by her. In her first scene we witness Anna missing her son, but she is here to save her brother’s marriage. She exhorts her sister-in-law to forgive. It is a touching dialogue, and despite all that will follow I believe this to be Anna’s greatest work. The brother’s marriage is saved, the wife forg...

Controlled Creativity

I always considered myself a bookworm. I used to bring a book everywhere, reading every chance I had (such as in the car) . I lived in the world of fiction, breathing impossibilities and oblivious to what was around me. I loved the worlds outside of my own. I have also always been very extroverted; so, many people didn't actually see me reading. But it was still obvious to all that I loved books because of how much I spoke about them and how I always had some book to recommend. I'd ask people questions (get to know them) and then I'd know just what sort of books they'd like and should be reading. Some of the first books I remember reading are all the old Nancy Drew books (my dad gave me most of  his old copies, still treasure books of mine) and a small book called Caterpillar Green. This book is still special to me, and now as I try to learn German I have bought a German translation. But as time passed I did not want books to control me. They were wonderf...

Interview with CG Drews; Author of BOY WHO STEALS HOUSES

Welcome to Keturah's Korner, Cait! I'm so excited to be talking with you today. Could you start out by telling us some things about yourself?  Thanks so much for having me on your blog! And hi to everyone! My name is CG Drews (also known as Cait from Paper Fury) and I'm an author and cake enthusiast from Australia. When I'm not writing, I'm trying to convince my small dog that the bed is not his (I have zero luck here) and making my own ice cream from scratch (writing fuel!). How long have you been writing and how many stories have you written? I started writing seriously when I was fifteen ... so ten years now (yiiiikes I feel old) and I've accumulated over thirty drafts. I promise they're not all very intelligible though! Can you tell us the story behind finding your agent/ publisher? I started querying for an agent when I was nineteen. I'd researched the process (ah, Google, my old friend) until I was overflowing with advice and had a query le...

Bibliophile Sweater Tag

The Rules: Give the person who tagged you a never-ending supply of cookies (or just thank them - either work)  THANK YOU  Tori  ... cookies are kinda hard to ship ;p Answer all the questions and use the blog graphic for this tag somewhere in your post  Pass along the tag to at least five other people Wear a sweater (okay, this is optional...but why wouldn't you want to??) These are my two favorite sweaters that I wear all the time! The first feels like soft bath towel, the second is wool!! Both are warm and comfy. Also the contrast of these two photos really show my photo interests well ;p Artsy fashion vs. selfie ;D Fuzzy sweater (a book that is the epitome of comfort) This has to be C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. Those books just make me way too happy ;D Always ;D  not the movies though. Those make me unhappy. I like the BBC versions better Striped sweater (book which you devoured every line of) That's a lot of bo...

Cake Flavored Book Tag

Alexa  tagged me in this post a long while back. Guess I've been really bad at getting to this one ;p  1. Chocolate Cake (a dark book you absolutely love)  Well, truth be told I love dark chocolate. 85-95% is best. Milk chocolate is fake and for children. Haha. But I did read a 1300 page biography about Adolf Hitler once. And his Mein Kampf . Some people might think that dark. And I did absolutely love reading them. Don't judge me... I'm obsessed with weird historical stuff ;D 2. Vanilla Cake (a light read)  A light read for me is a Nancy Drew book :D I own about seventy of the old Nancy Drew's. 3. Red Velvet (a book that gave you mixed emotions)  Katherine Paterson's Jacob Have I loved . And then I found out there was a movie ! Wow... but the movie ended up being dull compared to the book. This is one of my favorite authors. Usually all of her books leave me feeling something. Hope. Awe. Etc... but this was mi...

The Book Sacrifice Tag (LETS BURN SOME BOOKS!)

Every now and then some tags just make you super excited. Like this one that Alexa nominated me in. Only thing: Why is it a book sacrifice? Because all the books I'm about to mention, doing this thing to them would be no sacrifice to me. AT. ALL. It would be my pleasure to take such a hand in their demise. *evil and satisfied laughter*  I present to you the: An Over-Hyped Book Situation: You are in a bookstore when the zombies attack. Over the loudspeaker, you hear the military informing you that over-hyped books are the zombies’ only weakness. What over-hyped book will you chuck at the zombies? Christian romances better labeled "garbage for the mind." LOL. First off, just about any book in a book store is over-hyped - all the good ones take a lot more work to find. Ya' know, the things worthwhile (doing or reading) in life aren't acquired easily. It all takes time and effort... But I'd probably choose a Janett...
