The Lawrence Children: Chapter 5

Grandpa's Mystery New Year's came and went with no sign of the world ending. It was 1900 – and though many interesting things were happening all over the world, life continued on quietly in Norris. Every morning, before the children left for school, Vern would open up their father's Bible and read. They would all pray together, taking turns. And sometimes they would even sing either a hymn or one of family songs. After the Bible was read and prayers done, Lucy said, “I was thinking of riding with the children to school today. I want to pick up more books from the teacher and turn in my work,” Lucy looked at Vern. “Also I want to visit the hotel to see how Patty is doing.” “Patty works at the hotel?” Vern asked. “Kind of. She's been doing their cleaning, and lives in a small apartment next to them while the Harris' are away.” Vern nodded, “That probably brings in a little extra money.” They all liked Patty – she was several years older than ...

The Lawrence Children: Chapter 1

Father Tells a Story At one point in history Alex Norris' little town of Norris was a thriving gold mining town. It had a population of over 1,500 and was highly respected for the standards set by and enforced through the beliefs of Alex Norris. It was a town of wealth, of propriety, of neighborliness. Seven miles south and outside of Norris was a small cabin, surrounded by its allotted 20 acres, surrounded by mountains and a forest of evergreens. This was the Lawrence's mining claim, a small family with six children. A long day had just ended – Frederic Lawrence had just returned from his gold mines with his eldest son. Julia busied herself with a basket of mending. A warm smell produced by baking bread drifted from the kitchen proving she was still tying up her long day. All the children sat about the living room on benches or the hardwood floor finishing up their homework or playing respectively according to their ages. There was Vern, the eldest. He was se...

Creative Limitation: Writing Contest!!

One of my great friends has the blog floor today to tell you about this fun contest that she is wanting to get started!!! Make sure to join in on the fun!!!!! ~ Keturah  Hello! I’m Lauren, one of Keturah’s friends. I’m a fellow writer, reader, etc. As a result of this I had this great idea the other day. Stored up in my strange mind are several ideas for writing contests. I have them tucked away, hoping that someday I can use them. Well, I was thinking about blogging and thought it would be cool to have writing contests on a blog! I don’t have a blog of my own so I asked Keturah if I could guest post on hers! So who’s ready for some writing contests? I really don’t know much about hosting a contest so let’s start with something simple. Something easy but creative and fun. Six word stories will be our first contest!!!! What is a six word story? It’s exactly what it sounds like. It’s a story that’s only six words long.  It’s hard to do...

An Experience With Horses

It was an ordinary office day. Work was great. Shelby and I were having fun. I madethe same stupid, crazy jokes, Shelby gave me the same looks. The image below came from something I said that day... it was too funny that I had to make a meme of it. :) But all day long my mind wasn't really on the office work or on the fun we were having, but what I would be doing that evening – horse riding. For it was a beautiful sunny day! A friend and I had gone a few times before, but our time had always been limited. This time we had a couple hours all free to just ride. (Oh – and we were riding bare-back, and I wasn't so experienced ;b) I quickly got ready. I put on a full, tye-dyed skirt, leggings, and a comfortable t-shirt. And ran downstairs. My arrow head necklace bounced against my throat. “Wow,” I thought. “this arrow-head could bounce up as I'm riding and stab me in the throat and kill me.” What a thought. But I was too lazy to be bothered with ...

The Art of Journaling

All the diaries I've completed. HOW IT ALL STARTED There's something about my journaling. It's the sign of the end of my day. Even when I'm tired, I cant rest until I've got my thoughts, joys and frustrations out in my diary. And once I do, I sleep so good. I've always written. For as long as I can remember I loved to write stories. I always believed I would someday be published, but after I died. When I was little I knew that someday someone would find my stuff and then publish it. For some reason I never considered the option of actually publishing it myself. I loved to read about other authors (most of which are dead.) I thought it sad that we knew little some of them. Because of that I decided I would make sure people could find enough about me, for after I was dead, so they could have a nice sized biography on me. Thus when I was 11 I started journaling every day. In fact, since then, I've only missed 4-5 days and I...

Something Different Than Valentine?

I don't know why I'm doing this, this month, except that I've got in the habit of doing this every month, so yeah... See Cait's blog. A couple days ago a friend was reading a book and I snatched it out from her hands. "Look interesting?" She asked. I read the back cover. "No! It looks like a romance!" "What? You're crazy." Then she hollors to someone to talk some sense into my head. "This girl doesn't like romance." She was like, "How do you expect to get married." And she said she's not reading any of my stories with out the characters getting married. She doesn't know I've already tricked her ;). And here I am writing a post about a 'couple' of mine :) Well, let me just say this book has a very different ending :) Haha. So, trying to not give away any spoilers, here are my answers to this months Beautiful People: Valentine Edition. May I present to you Taylor Ibori and Mashaki ...
