As Old As Humanity: Community Midwife, Liz Catlin

Liz Catlin opened her door to a state trooper late one winter night. The four youngest of her fourteen children stood around her. She asked if she could call someone to stay with them.  “That boy looks old enough to watch them,” he said and dragged her roughly, barefoot and without a coat, out into the snow. She asked for clothes, and the state trooper allowed one of the young daughters to pass her a pair of snow boots.  Liz waited in the snow, surveying the scene around here. “Thirty years ago,”  she thought. “I’d be out here in handcuffs because of homeschooling, and they’d be taking the children away, too." They didn't seem to care that the children were underaged. They left them and brought Liz catlin to jail where they chained her to a wall until a warrant could be processed and issued for her arrest.  She spent a day in jail that first time. Her community rallied together and raised enough money for bond, but just a month later she was arrested agai...

Patriotism: Conspiracies or Truths?

There are always all sorts of conspiracy theories out there. All sorts of "false" truths. But despite all the multiple conspiracy theories, does that mean that bad things aren't actually happening? That's what some people say about what has been happening in Nevada, Oregon, Montana, and surrounding states. It isn't real. One side says that their rights are being taken away from them. Yet many claim nothing is happening - it's all the imagination. Or that these people in question are terrorists. Either way - the story isn't getting much publicity. It's being ignored by the media. What exactly is happening? Some of us want to know. I want to know. It is said... People are being put in jail and/ or shot at. One man, Levoy Finicum , has been shot. The Hammond family is in prison for starting a back-fire with out permits. The Bundy family is facing prison time because they got involved with the Hammonds. Before hand, the federal gov...

The Convenience of Obedience

“Obedience just isn't always the most convenient. In fact, most of the time it's unrealistic for my life.” Let's just be realistic here for a second. Obedience is very helpful, and very convenient at times. And I'm not talking about the times when we are the ones being obeyed. I'm talking about those nasty times when you are told to do something, yet you do not want to do it. When basically not doing it would be called disobeying. Oh, yeah, those times. What lovely times. But seriously, we all will have to admit at some point: Obedience is a necessary part of life, rules are the only strategy we have to stop full-out chaos. You may not want to stop at those red lights. But in the end it will be the most convenient thing to do to stop from dying in an immediate car crash. It may seem pretty fun as a little kid to do what ever you want, “forget” half the rules, but even a kid finds obeying the rules will eventually let them get aw...
