Interview with CG Drews; Author of BOY WHO STEALS HOUSES

Welcome to Keturah's Korner, Cait! I'm so excited to be talking with you today. Could you start out by telling us some things about yourself?  Thanks so much for having me on your blog! And hi to everyone! My name is CG Drews (also known as Cait from Paper Fury) and I'm an author and cake enthusiast from Australia. When I'm not writing, I'm trying to convince my small dog that the bed is not his (I have zero luck here) and making my own ice cream from scratch (writing fuel!). How long have you been writing and how many stories have you written? I started writing seriously when I was fifteen ... so ten years now (yiiiikes I feel old) and I've accumulated over thirty drafts. I promise they're not all very intelligible though! Can you tell us the story behind finding your agent/ publisher? I started querying for an agent when I was nineteen. I'd researched the process (ah, Google, my old friend) until I was overflowing with advice and had a query le...

Beautiful Books (THAT'S MINE FOR SURE!) - The Fur Slipper

It has been sooooo long since I did a link-up with these lovely people (to think I used to do it almost every month!) But I had so many of my own posts to share... and, well... you, know... writing is like life, it is constantly changing and growing. But, guys, for the first time I'm doing NaNo !!! And I thought that this would be a fun way to share about it all!!! - Don't worry... I'll do a better update on my novel later ;D Go here to join the fun!! First off, this novel has been in my mind since I was 14... that means the plot has had lots of time to "ferment" and become perfected... even though I did no writing on it. It started out with me discovering that the first Cinderella story was most likely set in ancient Egypt, and about a girl named Rhodopis... her slipper was Fur.  It wasn't until a later mistranslation was the slipper made glass.  Anyways, I got this brilliant idea of a twist of the original story, the Biblical Esther sto...

Blog Link Up: Character Evaluation

It has been so long since I've joined in the blog link up hosted by Paper Fury . So long. Hopefully you enjoy my main character, Cassie. She can seem a little intimidating from a first glance, but once you get to know her as Amanda has you will love her. 1. What first inspired this character? Is there a person/actor you based them off? To tell you the truth I'm not sure how this character came into being. She's nothing like me. She sort of came out of a dream along with the plot. After that a lot of thought and imagination. When I had been writing about Cassie for two years I did meet someone that reminded me a little of her, so sometimes I will observe this person for ideas when writing my MC, Cassie. 2. Describe their daily routine. I haven't thought about that much. My stories don't move through a routine but through major plot points. I'd say it looks like this: Sleep, get up and run out of her room grabbing something to eat, work, get through...

Beautiful People Link Up #7

Another link up for story characters! Again, I'm focusing on the main character of my current book I'm writing called Silent Thoughts . The second draft of this story is almost finished, with over 22,000 words so far!!!!!!!!!!!! Visit the PaperFury blog to join the link up. 1. What is their secret desire? To stop what happened to himself in his childhood from happening again. Though this desire is almost secret to even himself ( Taylor ). 2. What is the best and brightest moment they experience during the story? When He finds out what he's actually meant to do, and gives up his whole life for a better, scarier adventure. Taylor learns that sometimes it takes a while to realize what you actually want can be different than what you think you want. 3. What are the emotional places your characters are afraid to go to? Themselves. The past. The future. Sometimes it is just easier living now and forgetting what happened and what may happen. 4. Is there a place/ci...

Beautiful People { January Edition }

Finally got around to the Beautiful People blog link up again! If you'd like to participate go to Cait's blog Paper Fury. Here are the questions and my answers, and also some great quotes! 1. How many years have you been writing?When did you officially consider yourself a ‘writer’? I've been writing since before I can remember, but I haven't always been as serious about it. For a while I was in to painting and drawing. But eventually I realized that I really love writing. Even then I didn't start writing regularly until about a year and half ago, when I realized the only way to write was by writing. 2. How/why did you start writing? Because I love to. I started writing with thoughts then paper and pen ;) Lol. Maybe this was answered in the above question. Writing is just something that is a part of me and helps me know what I think better. 3. What’s your favorite part of writing? All of it! The originality. That it's mine. I love when really g...

Beautiful Books #3

1. On a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best), how well do you think this book turned out? It's my book, so of course it's awesome ;). But, no really, I do feel like I have written a great story here. Since it is still in mostly first draft form, I'll give it a six - I doubt most others could understand it yet :b. 2. Have you ever rewritten or edited one of your books before? If so, what do you do to prepare yourself? If not, what’s your plan? I have completed several short stories before. I don't exactly know what you mean.... plenty of rewriting, lots of work, an aching hand, and just wait to see what ever the characters decide to say. :D 3. What’s your final word count? Do you plan to lengthen or trim your book? 13,864. Just look at that number. Yup, I'll try to lengthen it. Something I don't have much luck with ever. 4. What are you most proud of? Plot, characters, or pacing? All of it! I have some very unique characters, some great plot ...

Beautiful Books #2

1. Be honest: how is your writing going? I started out really excited. Half way through the book the excitement wore back, but the last few days it has returned full force. 2. What’s your first sentence/paragraph? First days. There is something about them. A sort of ambiguous eerie feeling, and the knowledge that this day holds an important place in your future life. Good and evil. Both are at work. Each have a hold on first days, but it isn't until the last day when you find out who won. Taylor Ibori had thoughts similar to these running through his head. But he was pretty certain that only good was at work on this first day. It was the beginning of a real life. 3. Do you have a book cover, and/or pictures that reflect your book? No, but I want a very science/modern cover. 4. Do you have pictures of each of your characters? If not, describe them for us! (Be as descriptive as you can.) I got pinterest yesterday hoping to find pictures of Taylor at...

Beautiful Books #1

This is a link up to a blog that hosts Beautiful People ( this month and for the next two Beautiful Books), a challenge with the purpose to get to know your own characters better. If you'd like to participate, click on the picture and it'll take you to Cait's blog. 1. What came first: characters or plot idea?Are you a plotter or a pantser? Two little plot details :D I had just cleaned a house with bleach and had a rash from using it, and on top of that I was bit up bad by mosquitoes, so I ( being silly, since I hate sci-fi ) decided I was going to write a science fiction with giant mosquitoes and bleach guns ;b it's gone fantasticly from there. I have the plot outlined in my head, and I take notes as I go along, but I'd consider myself more of a panster definitely. :b 2. Do you have a title and/or a “back-cover-blurb”? Title is Silent Thoughts. No blurb :) 3. What wordcount are you aiming for when your novel is finished? Short chapter book with hop...

Beautiful People - Villains

If you'd like to do this also, visit here So, I've seen others doing this, and thought I'd give it a try! Though what villain to choose!? I have so many..some aren't really bad, but just are in the MC's path, hindering their way ;) I thought about using one from my Beauty and the Beast retelling. But I've decided to wait to share much about that one. :) So here goes, Zellah, the wicked but beautiful witch from my story A Story Concerning Unselfish Persons. 1. What is their motive? Revenge. Zellah's name means "One Who Resists". This story is allegorical, and all the names and characters have meaning, purpose. Because the King and Queen are good, no evil can remain. Zellah's rebellious ways contradict those of the unselfish. 2. What do they want, and what are they prepared to do to get it? She wants power again, and the kingdom. She is willing to kill everyone, including her granddaughter in order to satisfy herself. 3. How do ...
