Captured From Bondage

Following God is simple, and it's complex. It's easy. It's hard. It's all about relationship. But we'd be lying if we said God doesn't have rules, guidelines, expectations. What does this relationship look like, this business of following Yahweh and Yeshua, our God and our Messiah? Some say it's a liberal love. It is. Some think God's way is legalistic. If you term legalism a perfect standard that can't be changed , then that would be true. If you term legalism as following standards rather than God then you would be wrong. Rules aren't bad. Serving rules is bad. Following God means following Him, including His ways ( rules ). But to only follow His rules is so empty. Who follows rules without a master? That would be like following a master without rules. Both methods alone are pointless and inefficient. Balance . It's a balanced paradox. Not too liberal. Not too legalistic. Just perfect... judging by love, free to serve, ...

Sally Apokedak: The Button Girl (More Than A Book Review)

The Button Girl: Repentance has decided that she will no button Sober Marsh and have babies for him - no overlord is taking her babies. And so she sentences herself and Sober to life of slavery... and trials she never bargained for. Is it too late for her to remake her rash decisions? Or is she fated to a life of fear? Back at the  writer's conference  I went to (which y'all are probably wishing I'd stop talking about) I received a free copy of a really amazing book, and heard the author speak and give what was probably my favorite lecture at the conference... Putting My Message Into My Stories - Or Is That Preaching??? One thing had been bugging me, how so many Christian authors were saying, "Don't preach. Just tell a story."  So when I saw a session called Weaving in Your Worldview  I knew I had to go. Maybe I'd finally hear something good ;) (I actually heard a  lot of good things) What made it even better... I walked ...

Keturah by Lisa T. Bergren

I'm doing two posts this week, because I need to post this review, and didn't want to crowd my schedule up anymore than it already is ;) People, I have a confession. I don't like romances. I care for few historical fictions - I love history, but in  my opinion historical fiction is like a paragraph of what you'd find in a history book stretched over a trashy story. Except G. A. Henty's books... his books are like a paragraph of fiction stretched out over a great history book! Haha. So, yeah, I think I really had little business picking up a historical romance ... E xcep t the main character has my name !!!!! And so I requested to read this book in exchange of an honest review. Here we go ;) Amazon  Goodreads Backcover:  In 1772 England, Lady Keturah Banning Tomlinson and her sisters find themselves the heiresses of their father's estates and know they have one option: Go to the West Indies to save what is left of their heritage. Be A Friend

Hello. And no, this is not a joke on the Adele song. ;) I just simply wanted to tell you all hi on this beautiful day. And I wanted to share with you all one of my thoughts. Random and weird as always ;b Its about how much we think of others. Or how much love we show to others even in our thoughts. Or how many others . For some of us we like to keep our friend list short. Why is this? Because loving others can take a lot of energy. Time. And self-sacrifice. All that. :/ Today I was thinking, "What if someone I didn't know well (by choice) died today." I wasnt thinking of any specific person, by the way. And if I went to their funeral along with others that also hadn't known this person very well. I bet all of us would find something to at least think about this person. In fact our brains would probably be churning, searching for all memories invloving this person. Suppose they didn't die. Would we do the same? Or continue not giving ...

Sin Defined

In my  post, Am I Safe in My Sin?,  I talked about whether or not we as individual Christians ought to sin or not. But that then brings up the question "What is sin?" According to the online dictionary sin is: "An immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law. 'A sin in the eyes of God' Synonyms: immoral act, wrong, wrongdoing, act of evil/wickedness, transgression, crime, offense, misdeed, misdemeanor." It's funny, that even if though the Bible has set rules and examples of sin it's hard to understand what sin and evil really are. That's because sin and evil aren't things or made-up rules. They are ideas - theological and philosophical concepts. Once you understand that sin is not a thing but an abstract reality, it's easier to answer the following questions; 1. "What is sin?" 2. "Who made sin?" 3. "Who decided what sin is?" 4. "Who punishes sin?" 1. As ...

Am I Safe in My Sin?

"Once saved, always saved." What a controversial statement. One that contains so much meaning - and causes so much arguing. It mostly is based from the following passage, Romans 8:31-39 "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am ...

Kate's Innocence Blog Tour ( book review, author interview, and giveaway!!! )

Not only do I have news of a new book release and an interview with the author....but a giveaway, too! So, read on for more about this awesome book :). Sarah Holman  is an author I just recently discovered. Having won her first novel  a while back, and loving it tremendously, I looked her up and found the rest of her books . Which, of course, I had to read. And did. In fact I just finished reading the last one about a week ago. ( There were like 9 books or so, most of which made up three series. ) Very unique stories full of characteristic characters and original plot twists, her books are fun and fast paced reads. One thing I love about her books is she breaks a writing rule I've been taught can't be broke!!!! She doesn't stick to one genre. As of now, she has a sci-fi series, a medieval series, a historical revolutionary novel, a Cinderella retelling, a Bible story, and a modern mystery. But despite all the great stories, one thing about the novels irrit...
