Endings That Are Sunsets: Bittersweet and Satisfying

There isn't a time in my life where I can't remember writing. But writing wasn't always so pleasant. When I was little I was very proud of my handwritten, self-illustrated short stories. But in my early teens . . . I was nearly ashamed of my struggling novels and hid them from all prying eyes. I needed to write stories others could love. But every story I started wandered away into some unknown abyss. Horrible. Dark. Undefinable. Then, in my late teens, writing changed for me after I joined a knitting group. I found a writing community on there, and we were challenged to write a short story from the prompts given. I'd only tried to write novels, never short stories. At least not since I was little. But over the process of this challenge, of writing several short stories, magic found my pen and something clicked for me. I'd been writing to just to write. I wanted a story to tell – but I wasn't telling the stories I knew. All the novels I'd ...

Sourdough

All of my lovely blogging friends, many people I know in real life have been asking for this post. So this is for them. But if you so desire, this post may be for you, too.  Because everyone deserves to enjoy sourdough. In fact, all lovers of sourdough, this post is for you! Everyone else can go starve.  Story Time Many of you may know that I lived in Tennessee for sometime, doing office work for a ministry called Above Rubies . Mrs Campbell, the woman I worked for and lived with, made the most delicious sourdough I ever had. I decided I wanted to learn to make it just as well - I had previously tried, following the THM recipe, but I couldn't get my starter to turn out.  Living and watching Mrs Campbell, everything made much more sense than the book. And so when she went away on a trip and she asked me to take care of the sourdough I was excited for the opportunity!   I knew what to do and everything was going well - until I got...

My Blogging Strategy

First, I'm not going to divulge my plans for taking over the world through blogging. That's not the sort of strategy I'm referring to today.  I wanted to share my secrets on staying sane amidst a busy life, yet committing to a blogging schedule and how to actually meet that schedule so that none of your posts are ever late. Though taking over the world does sound more fun. When I first started blogging I didn't own a laptop. In fact I'd never used a computer of any sort. I used my cell phone. I was still new to the having-a-cell-phone-thing, being barely sixteen. To be honest I shouldn't have even started blogging. I didn't know what I was doing at all. But... when I first had my cell phone I was kinda crazy. I'd text all my friends these group messages with pictures or memes and my thoughts about those. Several times one of my friends suggested I start a blog. And... so I did. I started this blog. With a cell phone. I even wrote several ...

How to Blog With a Cell Phone #3 (Confession)

I have a huge confession to make. I no longer use my cell phone to post .  You, see, I bought a laptop over a year ago... at first I still used my cell phone. But then I realized it was way easier to post using my laptop. I mean, come on, the pics load right away! And I don't have to do the link pictures through tinypic.com. And it's so much easier to format on a laptop. I don't lose my work as easily. I don't have to type in the code for italics or bold anymore (yes, I used to have to do that). I sometime still write my posts on my cell phone, then copy and paste it onto here. But all the technical work happens through my laptop. Such as the new and improved look. That would not have been possible with my cell phone - it just wasn't as techy, efficient, or fast.  I enjoyed being weird in the sense that I blogged differently.  But practical must override weird, right?  I do hope you all don't mind ;)  I'll leave y...

How to Blog With A Cell Phone #2

Hey!  Life where I'm at is busy... but still trying to keep up with my promised post of the week. Amidst work, friends, and kittens, it's pretty tough though. Haha :D ;b Most pictures on my blog I take with my cell phone...except this one of course ;) A while back I did this terrible post  explaining how I blog. Yeah... I still blog with my cell phone, and after like 80+ posts... I hope they are finally getting better... I finally did get a laptop. But my phone has become the natural way to blog... so it's a little difficult transferring everything over. For example, right now I'm too lazy to turn on the laptop, so it's back to the cell phone ;) Of course, a picture of the kittens staying in my room ;) What all do I do and what has changed since the beginning? 1. Well, I got a new phone which has an awesome pink case. This phone allows me to upload pictures straight from it. On my last phone I had to use a place...

The Art of Journaling

All the diaries I've completed. HOW IT ALL STARTED There's something about my journaling. It's the sign of the end of my day. Even when I'm tired, I cant rest until I've got my thoughts, joys and frustrations out in my diary. And once I do, I sleep so good. I've always written. For as long as I can remember I loved to write stories. I always believed I would someday be published, but after I died. When I was little I knew that someday someone would find my stuff and then publish it. For some reason I never considered the option of actually publishing it myself. I loved to read about other authors (most of which are dead.) I thought it sad that we knew little some of them. Because of that I decided I would make sure people could find enough about me, for after I was dead, so they could have a nice sized biography on me. Thus when I was 11 I started journaling every day. In fact, since then, I've only missed 4-5 days and I...

Beautiful Books #3

1. On a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best), how well do you think this book turned out? It's my book, so of course it's awesome ;). But, no really, I do feel like I have written a great story here. Since it is still in mostly first draft form, I'll give it a six - I doubt most others could understand it yet :b. 2. Have you ever rewritten or edited one of your books before? If so, what do you do to prepare yourself? If not, what’s your plan? I have completed several short stories before. I don't exactly know what you mean.... plenty of rewriting, lots of work, an aching hand, and just wait to see what ever the characters decide to say. :D 3. What’s your final word count? Do you plan to lengthen or trim your book? 13,864. Just look at that number. Yup, I'll try to lengthen it. Something I don't have much luck with ever. 4. What are you most proud of? Plot, characters, or pacing? All of it! I have some very unique characters, some great plot ...

Just to let everyone know, I got the commenting fixed! Some how, with out realizing it, I disabled the comments a couple weeks ago, and just realized it last week. It took me forever to figure out how to turn them back on! So, any ways, feel free to comment again!!!!!!

A Modest Oufit

So this is a "fashion" post. Enjoy! C lose up of denim. The embroidered flowers were part of the fabric. I top-stitched the seams (there are eight gores) and the hem with bright pink thread. Skirt: I made it - to order one like it, email me at keturahskorner(@) gmail(dot) com Pink button-up: thrift White tank: Wal-Mart Necklace: my dad found it in one of his salvage cars :b Sandals: Earth Spirit And since a friend and I just had trouble following blogs, I'll share how we finally managed to do it. :b When clicking on the "Join This Site" bar it told me that my request couldn't be fulfilled. I kept messing around with it. Finally I clicked on those squares that look like pages... there's an arrow pointing at them in my drawing, but the arrow doesn't really exist. Clicking on this will show you all the members of the blog. Up in the far right corner is a yellow-orange button that says something about following. Click on that. ...

How to Blog With a Cell Phone, A New "Vintage" Dress, and My Pets

Hi! First off I want to say thanks to Bethany from Clever Bunnies and MissMelodyMuffin from The Splendor Falls on Castle Walls for helping me with my blog and answering questions! Everthing is a lot smaller on a phone than a computer. Also they work a little differently... I think :] Pretty much everything went good, but I did have trouble finding the Join this Sight  gadget. For any of you others that do, this is how; go to your blog dashboard, click on Layout , then on on of the boxes that say Add a gadget . This will bring up a page of 20-30 different gadgets, but none of these are the right ones. Up in the upmost, far left corner are several options, and one is More Gadgets . After you click on this it will give you the option to choose any one of 300+ gadgets. Up top is a search box, though, so if you know what you want you don't have to scroll through them all. Search Members . Also I had trouble with the banner. I still don't know if I like it, but f...
