NaNo Wip: Villains (Help, I don't do those!)

Introduce the main antagonist

of your book!

Oh, wow. I never even thought about this before. I think the antagonist is defined as the person that thwarts the goals of the MC? In that case the main antagonist would be Zilla's best friend, Cinderella???
What a thought. I still have the stepmother and stepsisters in this book, but they are back ground villains that stand in the way of Cinderella, not Zilla.
As for introductions: Cinderella is very much like any other Cinderella. Kind to everyone and anything. Lovable. Petite. Beautiful. And the one that Prince Charming (Prince Dashel in my story) loves.
Only one girl is Cinderella, thus most of us will not have a Prince Charming waiting to save us.

What do you (the writer) have

in common with the

antagonist?  What do you not have in common?

I can relate to Cinderella's tough life. I do find more good in life, like she does — though I'm not as positive. After all I'm not Cinderella. I am definitely one of the other girls attending the ball. But I have been hated before for being me. So I do relate with Cinderella in that way.

What does your antagonist do when he/she is

mad?  Do they have a soft spot?

Cinderella is like all soft spot. If she gets mad she cries in the garden and wonders why she was left to live and her father made to die. She doesn't really get mad. Just very sad. Which is still a horrible thing for such a sweet girl like Cinderella.

Who is your antagonist’s worst enemy?

Cinderella's worst enemy would be her stepmother, Lilith, and her stepsisters, Athaliah and Sapphira. And it's not because she hates them but because they hate her and the sisters especially are always looking for ways to torment her — such as changing her beautiful name, Ella into the horrid name of Cinderella. Even so, Lilith is to be more feared because she is the one that is determined Cinderella shall never escape.

What is their greatest fear?

Cinderella's greatest fear would be having to live forever with her stepmother, or having to wait on her stepsisters for the rest of her life. An even deeper fear that she never considers is losing Zilla's friendship . . .

What is your antagonist’s weapon of choice?

Cinderella harming someone else could never happen. I doubt the girl could even kill a mouse. Haha see what I did there. ;D

How would your antagonist surprise your

reader?

You think you know her story — but do you? And even then . . . when you're expecting something to happen and it does happen I suspect there will still be surprise. I won't tell how or where or why because that's called spoiling all the fun ;D

What is one thing your villain would never do?

She's not a villain though ;0 But Cinderella has always known that her father bought her the services of a fairy godmother. Cinderella has only told Zilla. And much to Zilla's frustrations, Cinderella refuses to call on the aid of this woman's temporary magic. And thus, they have no idea who the woman even is.

What lie does your antagonist believe about

the MC?

Cinderella believes that Zilla loves everyone as much as she does. She also believes that Zilla needs happiness more than she does.

What is your favorite thing about your

antagonist?

That she's Cinderella hahahah. Is that cheating? If so I'm still sticking to my original answer.

If your antagonist was your MC, what would

your book look like?

Just like the traditional Cinderella story, or some version of that. ;D

Am I evil for not having a truly evil person as
my antagonist? Well, to my defense, at least I didn't say Zilla was her own antagonist (which still may have been very true).

Current NaNo word count: 27,043 words.

So, tell me — how do you like Cinderella? What's your favorite version of this story? Have you ever tried to rewrite the story?

  1. Having Cinderella as your antagonist is really cool! Especially since she's so sweet......can’t wait to see how it turns out! And congratulations on that word-count!

    1. Yeah . . . she's definitely still sweet. It's just how the MC views her haha. Thanks!

  2. USE THE MAGIC

    Nah

    COME ON CINDERELLA

    *disinterested shrug*

    *frantic gestures*

That's hilarious, that Cinderella doesn't want to use the godmothers magic. That's a first. And it's brilliant.

    1. Haha, thanks! Of course, she's the sort of villain that's really only a villain to the MC. Really, she's not a bad girl at all :)

  7. I love fairy tales and have an especial soft spot for the Cinderella story. I love the idea of making her the antagonist. I tried to rewrite it once with Cinderella as a pub landlady.

  8. Oooh this is really interesting, it's so cool to see a Cinderella retelling where she is the antagonist and not the MC! I can't wait to see how this story develops. :)

    1. Thanks! It's so encouraging to have so many cheering me on! This story is nearly done (so is NaNo), but I already have big changes planned for the second draft ;D

  9. Zilla's antagonist is her best friend?? That's so cool, Keturah!! Stories where the antagonist is a good guy who gets in the way of the protagonist's goal are so fun!

And I love the idea that you can buy the services of a fairy godmother! That seems like it could open up a few intriguing plot directions.

    1. Thanks, Jem! I think so, too ;D

I love this part, too. But somehow it's sunk to the plot so it's not that huge of a thing and might even drift out of it altogether ;0 Which I'm kinda sad about. I'll try to add more to it in draft two, but we shall see.

  10. Ooh, wow. this sounds super intriguing! I'm so interested to read your story now. And I love that last question: how would your story be different if the antagonist was the MC. That's so thought-provoking!

Living Like The Amish: Interviews With Three "English" Families PART I

Many people are obsessed with the Amish. I know at one time I was as well, and to a degree I still am. But my perception  has changed with experience. It started a long time ago when my family went to an Amish-held auction (no, it's not a place where you can buy Amish children, but a place where you can buy things from the Amish). I was eleven years old and enthralled to be surrounded by so many Amish. I loved the cockscomb flowers they sold everywhere. I bought a whole box for $2 and dried them for seeds so I could plant my own. But then I experienced my first reality shock concerning the Amish. I had assumed since they lived a simpler life everything about them was completely old-fashioned and natural. Imagine my horror when I saw Amish walking around with soda cans and store-bought ice cream. " Mom ," I said. "He's drinking soda!"  Left to right, back row: Jonny, Jonathan (Dad). Front row: Jacob, Keturah, Rebekah (Mom), Jonah (on Mom's

Peace During Patience

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” - Philippians 4:6 My family and I were sitting around the breakfast table several months ago. Mom had just read this verse. One of the kids laughed incredulously, “What is it saying? Be careful for nothing – live recklessly?” “No,” I answered quickly. My tone was very matter-of-fact, blunt, as if I were all-knowing. “It means do not worry.” The kids all nodded among themselves and life continued on for them. But for me life paused at my words. I had heard this verse soooooooo many times. I had always known what it meant. But now? Now it really meant something . “Do not worry.” This path I've chosen. I can not see it. I can not feel it. I do not know where I am. I have chosen to follow God, and no other. But why did He hide the light from my eyes? I must take a step forward. But I do not want to. How long w

Inside The Land Of The Free

Hello. My name is Greg.  I have a lot of time to think. Too much time. Sometimes I think about my life - why I am sitting in prison. I wonder what I could have done different - my life plays before my eyes. "If only..." But even I know that no amount of good works would have stopped tyranny from finding fault with me. It is cold. My clothes are thin. My stomach is empty - occasionally filled with food of no sustenance.  I hide my face in my knees - as if that will somehow protect me from the horrors of this dark cold dungeon.  They keep it cold to freeze me, this I know. It is a part of their game - to drive a lesson into me. As if I have a lesson to learn solely because I was convicted. Convicted, but not  guilty. Years.  68 years for standing against injustice. How many years have I sat in here? I have forgot. All I know is this question, "Was I fated for this? Did God grant my birth
